"Rising Planet 1.0"
oil on canvas, 24" x 24"
James is pleased to present his latest oil painting, "Rising Planet," for Elmhurst Artists' Guild Summer Members Show 2018. The work continues to take inspiration from his interest in astronomy where the life cycle of a star becomes a metaphor for the cycles of life for people. In this piece, the dark circle in the middle of the piece represents the last stage of a star's life where all the fuel it uses to burn brightly is spent and what remains is the element of iron. At that point the star explodes as a super nova and begins the final stages of it's life. The swirl of energy around the dark mass hints of the circle of life the new possibilities as life is reborn.
